AI Powered Project Management and Automation

AI Powered Agentic Project Management and Automation Using Airtable

Why Airtable?

Airtable is not a natural choice for me when it comes to project management tools. For decades, I used the tools most widely available in the industry; Agile scrum friendly software engineering tools such as Jira, Confluence, Notion; Kanban tools such as Trello, Basecamp, Balsamiq; more recent visually fun ones such as Monday.com, TeamGantt, Smartsheet; even back in the old days when all we had was MS Project; and not forgetting good old Excel when all else failed!

As with most good Project Managers, I have trained in multiple project management methodologies, Agile Scrum, Prince2, Project Management Institute’s prestigious Project Management Professional (PMP) framework, DSDM Agile, Six Sigma and the Waterfall.

So Airtable doesn’t appear as a natural choice in project management circles. It’s more of a database tool comprising of tables that are linked together. Think of SQL but without the coding. When approached in this way, it is a very unappealing project management tool. However, in this age of AI and workflow automation, if you’re thinking along the lines of AI assisted project management, I believe Airtable is a very strong candidate.

After decades of using all other typical tools, I decided to go a different way and experiment with Airtable as a project plan tool and take it to the next level by automating project management workflows, using agentic AI to assist me as a Project Manager, and taking it beyond the realms of asking generic questions to LLM bots.

I have created a few project plans using this method and it seems to work well. I will explain my thinking and approach step by step here.
